Signing in and protecting your account
The two ways to sign in, what happens when a password is forgotten, and the protections that keep the account safe.
Signing in
On the Sign in page, the E-mail or phone field accepts two kinds of identifier:
- the email address, for the primary administrator;
- the phone number, for users created by the administrator (sellers, cashiers, managers).
A DR Congo number can be typed as usual. For a number from another country, type it with its dialling code, for example +250 788…
If your account is linked to Google, the Continue with Google button signs you in without a password.
A user's first sign-in
A user created by the administrator receives a temporary password. At the first sign-in, the Change password screen requires them to choose their own password (at least 8 characters) before going any further. The temporary password is therefore used only once.
Forgotten password
Primary administrator
- On the sign-in page, click Forgot your password?.
- Enter the account's email address, then Get a code.
- Enter the 6-digit code received by email (valid for 15 minutes).
- Choose a new password of at least 8 characters and confirm it.
Seller or user without email
A user who signs in with a phone number does not receive a code. They ask the shop administrator to reset their password: in Secondary admins, the Reset button shows a new temporary password to pass on.
If the primary administrator has lost access to their email address, Boutixy support can correct the account's address after verification. See Contacting support.
Sign-in blocked
After 8 wrong passwords in 15 minutes on the same identifier, sign-in is refused with the message “Too many attempts. Try again in 15 minutes.”. This protects against guessing: the correct password is also refused during that time.
Wait 15 minutes and try again, or use Forgot your password?. If you are in a hurry, support can lift the block straight away.
Email codes are protected in the same way: a limited number of sends and attempts per hour.
Changing your details
Menu Settings › My credentials. Every user can change their name, phone, address and password there. The current password is always requested to confirm, so that nobody can change your access on a device left open.
- For a secondary user, the identifier is the phone number: if the number changes, they then sign in with the new one.
- A phone number or email address can be used by only one active account.
- The Sign in with Google block lets you link your Google account, or change it.
Connected devices
The same page lists the phones and computers connected with the Boutixy application, with the date of their last access. The Disconnect button closes the access of a lost, stolen or lent device. Changing the password signs out all the account's devices at once.
Language
The application exists in French and English. The language is chosen at the top of the screen; it is remembered for your account and follows you on all your devices.
